프랑스 화가 '프레데릭 레글리즈(Frédéric LÉGLISE) 개인전

[아트코리아방송 = 김한정 기자] 종로구 북촌로에 위치한 ART WORKS PARIS SEOUL GALLERY(대표 임채진)에서는 2024년 10월 2일(수) - 2024년 11월 2(토)까지 프랑스 화가 '프레데릭 레글리즈(Frédéric LÉGLISE) 개인전이 열리고 있다.

10월 7일 오후 4시 아트웍스파리서울 갤러리에 들려 프랑스 화가 '프레데릭 레글리즈(Frédéric LÉGLISE)와 인터뷰를 진행하고 번역은 임채진 대표가 맡았다.

프레데릭은 1972년 프랑스에서 태어나 활동중인 작가로, 회화로의 회귀에 새롭게 집중하는 예술가이며, 여성누드화로 잘 알려져 있는 그는 여성 모델들을 촬영하는 것으로 시작하여, 때로는 거의 제안되지 않은 나체의 친밀함 속에서 대상을 포착했다. 

여성들은 중력이 배제된 일차원적 흰색 배경에서 나타나며, 작가의 작품을 특징짓는 애시드 컬러와 파스텔 색조의 팔레트로 표현된다.

이번 전시에서 그는 <클로즈업>이라는 시리즈를 선보이며, 자신의 이전 작품에서 특정 세부 사항을 잘라내고 그것을 더 크게 다시 그리는 방식으로 자신의 작품을 재조명하고 인용하였다. 화가에게 이것은 초상화의 고전적 개념을 재검토하고, 추상과 대화하며, 비율의 개념을 가지고 노는 문제로, 영화에서 같은 얼굴에 대해 와이드샷에서 클로즈업으로 전환할 수 있는 것과 같다. 

모리스 드니의 인용구에 따라, “회화는- 군마, 나체 여성 또는 어떤 일화가 회화가 되기 전에 - 본질적으로는 특정 순서로 배열된 색상으로 덮인 평면이다”라는 말처럼, 이 시리즈를 통해 예술가는 자신의 그림을 잘라내어 주제를 거리 두기로 표현하였다.

그의 작품은 비엔나의 벨베데레 미술관, 아테네의 프리시라스 미술관, 리예카의 현대 미술관, 티미쇼아라의 미술관, 하우트 노르망디 FRAC, 파리의 라 메종 루즈와 르 파사주 드 레츠에서 전시되었다. 또한 다노 & 알랑 말라 브뤼셀, 레드불 헝가를 포함 다양한 컬렉션에 소장되어 있으며 그는 프랑스에서 교수로 활약하고 있다.

Frédéric Léglise belongs to the new generation of artists focusing on a return to painting. He starts by photographing his female models, captured in the intimacy of a sometimes barely-suggested nudity. 

The women emerge from a plain white background in a palette of acid colours and pastels that have come to characterise the artist’s work.

 Recently he developed a series called Close-up, which revisits and quotes his own works, cropping certain details from his past paintings and repainting them larger. For the painter, it is a question of re-examining the classic conception of the portrait, of also dialoguing with abstraction, of playing with the notion of scale; in the same way as in the cinema we can go from a wide shot to a close-up on the same face. 

In line with the quote from MauriceDenis; “Remember that a painting, before being a war horse, a naked woman or any anecdote, is essentially a flat surface covered with colors in a certain order assembled”, the artist through this series puts at a distance the subject by painting from cropping of his own paintings.

  His paintings have been shown in particular at the Belevedere Museum in Vienna, the Frissiras Museum in Athens, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, the Museum of Fine Arts in Timisoara , also in FRAC Haute-Normandie, at La Maison Rouge and at Le Passage from Retz in Paris. He works are in many important collectinos including Collection Danute et Alain MallartBruxelles and redbull hangard.
